The Blurb:

When Neo-Viking terrorists invade the British Museum in London to reclaim the staff of Skara Brae, ARKANE agent Dr. Morgan Sierra is trapped in the building along with hostages under mortal threat.

As the slaughter begins, Morgan works alongside psychic Blake Daniel to discern the past of the staff, dating back to islands invaded by the Vikings generations ago.

Can Morgan and Blake uncover the truth before Ragnarok is unleashed, consuming all in its wake?

Day of the Vikings is a fast-paced, action adventure thriller set in the British Museum, the British Library and the islands of Orkney, Lindisfarne and Iona. Set in the present day, it resonates with the history and myth of the Vikings.

My thoughts:

It's rare that I venture into otherworldly books, especially when there's no romance involved, but I found this on my kindle while I was on holiday and decided to give it a try.

Day of the Vikings is the fifth book in JF Penn's Arkane series, but can be read as a standalone.

Mythology has always fascinated me, and it was obvious that the author had done a lot of research for this book. The settings such as the British Museum and the British Library were beautifully described with enough detail to visualise the scenes but not so much that it bogged down the story.

The book starts as a group of neo-vikings attempt to steal the ancient staff of Skara Brae, but ex-Israeli soldier turned paranormal investigator, Morgan Sierra, steps in to stop them, assisted by museum employee Blake Daniel who turns out to have special powers of his own. When the neo-vikings escape, Morgan and Blake join forces to prevent a catastrophe.

The story is fast-paced, and at novella length, it was over all too soon. I'll definitely be reading more of this series, not least because I loved the writing style, but I'll go back and start at the beginning.

Day of the Vikings is available from all retailers, but at the time of writing, it's also available as a free download if you sign up for JF Penn's newsletter (think that's how I got it!)
