NaNoWriMo

This is my third go at November’s National Novel Writing Month challenge—writing 50,000 words, or a short novel, in just thirty days.

Fortunately, I’m blessed to be able to write fast, but this year threw in the added challenge of a holiday midway through—it’s not so easy to write underwater!

But I did fit in a couple of days of writing out in Egypt, helped by Snickers the kitten…

Fun fact: Trouble in Paradise, set in Egypt, was my first NaNoWriMo novel. I got inspired to write that one while chatting to two friends as we rode horses in the desert. It took me eight days to bash out the first draft then another six months to edit!

This year, I took a little trip into my past with a complete rewrite of a novel I first drafted in 2013. My writing style has changed a lot since then, and I loved the story wanted to turn it into something publishable.

Joker in the Pack was inspired by a Beatles Song: Eleanor Rigby. I wondered what would happen if there really was an old lady living alone who nobody knew. My Eleanor turned out to be a rather unpleasant woman with an addiction to online shopping and a secret someone never wanted to get out.

It’s the first book in a new series to be published next year—Blackwood UK—which follows the team from Blackwood Security’s London office led by Nye from Pitch Black. These books will be more mystery than thriller, with plenty of twists and turns to hopefully keep you guessing. The rewrite of Joker added a few new characters, 15,000 words, and eight extra chapters. Oh, and Emmy pays a visit 🙂

I can't wait to share this book with everyone!
